TWO POLICE OFFICERS SHOT IN SOUTHGATE — SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER MASSIVE MANHUNT…Full story in the comments

Two Southgate, Michigan police officers were shot Thursday afternoon while responding to a call about a man brandishing a weapon at an apartment complex.

The suspect, 20-year-old Jeremiah Christian Kemp, opened fire — striking both officers in the leg — before leaping from a second-story window, cutting off his court-ordered tether, and fleeing the scene.

What followed was a dramatic four-hour manhunt involving over 75 officers, K9 units, and air support. Kemp was eventually found hiding in another apartment. It’s still unclear whether anyone knowingly helped him evade capture.

Both wounded officers remain hospitalized but are expected to make full recoveries.

Court records reveal Kemp had racked up multiple offenses since March — yet remained on the streets and armed.
This incident underscores a growing concern: when repeat offenders are left unchecked, and law enforcement’s hands are tied, communities pay the price.
