A routine flight turned into a nerve-racking ordeal Wednesday morning when an American Airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing in Las Vegas shortly after takeoff.
Flight 1665 had just departed from Harry Reid International Airport en route to Charlotte, North Carolina, when thick smoke began pouring from one of its engines, according to the FAA. The dramatic scene was captured on video, showing dark plumes trailing the aircraft as it climbed into the sky with 165 passengers onboard.
Thankfully, the pilot quickly turned the plane around. It landed safely back in Las Vegas by 8:20 a.m. and was able to taxi to the terminal under its own power, airport spokesperson Luke Nimmo confirmed.
