A devastating accident on Thursday claimed the lives of at least 15 people when a bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck at a rural intersection near Carberry—about 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The passengers were reportedly on their way to a local casino when the crash occurred. Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the grim toll: “At least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.”
Ten more remain hospitalized, and while both drivers survived, officials have not yet confirmed who was at fault. Haunting images from the crash site show crushed mobility aids scattered near tarps covering the victims.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered heartfelt condolences, saying his thoughts are with the victims’ families and the injured. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also expressed deep sorrow for the lives lost in this tragic event.
