Donald Trump dementia fears spike as doctor makes new dire claims

Donald Trump has long insisted he’s in top form—physically and mentally. Backed by glowing medical reports and his own confident declarations, the former president continues to assure the public he’s “fit and ready” for a return to the White House. But now, troubling new claims from mental health experts are fueling a wave of concern.

In April, Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, released an official health report describing the 78-year-old as “fully fit” for the presidency. According to the report, Trump stands 6’3”, weighs 224 pounds, and showed normal results on tests covering everything from heart function to neurological health. He recently underwent cataract surgery and a colonoscopy that revealed a benign polyp and mild diverticulitis. Still, Barbabella praised Trump’s “robust” condition, crediting an active lifestyle and noting no red flags in his cognitive performance.

“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief,” the doctor wrote.

Trump echoed the report’s optimism, telling reporters: “I took a cognitive test… and I got every answer right.” He emphasized that his check-up included “a lot of different tests,” including those related to heart and brain function.

But not everyone is buying it.

In a recent appearance on The Dean Obeidallah Show, clinical psychologist Dr. John Gartner—a former Johns Hopkins Medical School professor—issued a stark warning: Trump may be displaying early signs of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive brain disease that impacts behavior, motor skills, and speech.

Drawing on years of footage, Gartner pointed to dramatic changes in Trump’s physical agility. He referenced old clips of Trump playing volleyball and moving with ease—compared to today’s slower, stiffer gait.

“I have a film of him diving for a volleyball and popping right back up,” Gartner said. “Now? He struggles with stairs, he trips, he stumbles.”

One specific motion caught Gartner’s attention: a semicircular swing of Trump’s right leg—a pattern known among neurologists as a potential symptom of FTD.

“He has what they call a leg swing… like it’s a dead weight,” Gartner explained. “It’s not just aging—it’s neurological.”

Adding to the intrigue are viral online videos suggesting Trump may be wearing a catheter under his clothing—an unconfirmed detail, but one that’s intensified public speculation. Gartner claims a fellow medical expert, Dr. Zoffman, reviewed recent footage and reached a chilling conclusion: she’s “absolutely convinced” Trump is suffering from frontotemporal dementia.

So far, Trump’s team has not addressed these claims directly. Dr. Barbabella’s April report remains the only official statement regarding the former president’s health.

Still, the debate is growing—and it underscores a larger issue: how much should the public know about the health of its political leaders? And how reliable are the official reports when serious experts raise red flags?

What do you think? Are these warnings overblown—or do they reveal a deeper truth we can’t afford to ignore?
