North Texas girls among those missing after Kerr Co. flooding

Catastrophic flash flooding along the Guadalupe River has turned a summer of adventure into a nightmare for dozens of families. At least 20 girls have been reported missing from Camp Mystic, a popular all-girls retreat in Hunt, Texas—among them, two young girls from North Texas: Eloise Peck and Lila Bonner, their devastated parents confirmed.

In a matter of just 45 minutes, the Guadalupe River surged an astonishing 26 feet after torrential storms dumped up to 15 inches of rain, overwhelming the campgrounds and surrounding areas.

Emergency crews have launched a massive search effort, deploying 14 helicopters and more than 400 rescue personnel. “They could be in a tree. They could be out of communication,” said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, underscoring both the urgency and the faint sliver of hope clung to by families awaiting word.

In just 45 minutes, the river rose a staggering 26 feet following storms that dumped up to 15 inches of rain. Kerr County officials declared the flooding “catastrophic,” confirming at least 13 deaths with more residents still unaccounted for.

Camp officials report that while some girls were airlifted to safety by helicopter, others remain missing. Families have been notified, and a massive search operation involving 14 helicopters and hundreds of emergency personnel continues with urgency and hope.

“This is a time for prayer,” urged Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. “They could be in a tree. They could be out of communication.”

As search crews comb the flood-ravaged region, a shaken community clings to faith. This Independence Day, fireworks were replaced with flashing emergency lights, and the laughter of campfires gave way to silence and sorrow.
