Missing teen found dead, boyfriend now wanted by police

Police Hunt Suspect After 18-Year-Old California Teen Found Dead Under Bridge

Authorities are urgently searching for the man believed to be responsible for the death of 18-year-old Marissa DiNapoli, whose decomposed body was discovered on July 2 near Anderson Lake County Park in Santa Clara County—just days after she was reported missing.

Marissa was last seen on June 29, and police confirmed the grim discovery of remains near the location where she was last spotted. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, officials initially struggled to positively identify the body as Marissa’s.

Final Contact

On the evening of June 28 at 9:16 p.m., Marissa sent a text to her family saying she was staying with a friend and planned to return home the following day, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department. When she failed to return and stopped answering calls, her family reported her missing.

Last Seen With Boyfriend

The last confirmed sighting of Marissa was on June 29 alongside her 21-year-old boyfriend, Martin Mendoza. Surveillance footage captured the couple leaving a residence where Marissa’s car was later found. Mendoza is now considered a “person of interest” in the investigation as police continue their search.

The Morgan Hill Times reports that audio from the surveillance footage captured Martin Mendoza asking Marissa DiNapoli, “Why would you text your ex?”

Marissa’s sister, Monice Ramirez, reviewed the video and told ABC 7, “We see her come out of the house and leave with Martin. They were leaving together, but Martin returned with the car—without Marissa.”

Body Discovered Near Familiar Spot

Following an extensive search involving local and federal authorities, a body was found near Anderson Lake County Park—a location Mendoza reportedly frequented with Marissa, according to NBC Bay Area.

Due to the condition of the remains, authorities initially could not confirm the identity. A Morgan Hill Police Department captain explained, “She had been out there for a while, so we needed to wait for the medical examination results before providing further details.”

Confirmation Brings Heartbreak

Tragically, the very next day, police confirmed that the remains were those of Marissa DiNapoli. In a statement of support, loved ones and community members said, “Our arms are around you,” offering comfort amidst the grief.

In an emotional Facebook post, the Morgan Hill Police Department announced, “We are devastated to inform you that Marissa’s body was found last night, July 2, 2025. The Santa Clara County Coroner confirmed her identity today, July 3, 2025. This is not the outcome any of us wanted, and we are heartbroken by this news. Marissa was a vibrant member of our Morgan Hill community with a bright future ahead of her.”

The department expressed support for the grieving family: “To Marissa’s family, our arms are around you. Our whole Department is here to support you during this unimaginable time.” They also stressed that the investigation is ongoing.

Family Mourns and Requests Privacy

Through the Morgan Hill Police Department, Marissa’s family released a heartfelt statement: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Marissa. At this time, our family kindly asks for privacy as we grieve and navigate this difficult journey. We appreciate the love and support from those who have reached out. If you wish to show support, please do so through your prayers, kind words, and cherished memories.”

Step-Mother’s Fiery Plea for Justice

In a deeply moving Facebook post, Marissa’s stepmother expressed both heartbreak and anger. “This is every parent’s worst nightmare. She was only 18 and had her entire amazing life ahead of her. My only hope now is that Marissa receives the justice she deserves. I am already circulating your face all over Mexico, Martin Mendoza, you total excuse of a life. We WILL find your pathetic a**. Justice for Marissa.”

‘He’s Obsessed With Her’: Friends Reveal Chilling Warning About Boyfriend

As police intensify their search for Martin Mendoza, those close to Marissa DiNapoli say the relationship had raised serious concerns.

Jaslyn Gutierrez, Marissa’s best friend, told NBC Bay Area that Marissa had confided in her fears for her life. “Marissa told me, right there in the car outside my house, that Mendoza would kill her, that he wouldn’t stop—that he’s obsessed with her, that he’s crazy, and he’s willing to go to that extent,” Jaslyn revealed.

Suspect Refuses to Cooperate

Labeled a “person of interest,” Mendoza has so far refused all attempts at communication. “We are still actively trying to locate him and reach out,” Morgan Hill Police Department Captain Mario Rodriguez told the Morgan Hill Times. “We’ve contacted him via phone and through his family, offering an opportunity to speak with us—but he has not responded.”

Police Plea for Mendoza to Come Forward

Captain Mario Rodriguez made a direct appeal to Martin Mendoza: “If you’re watching this, Martin, please contact us. We want to talk to you and understand what happened. It’s crucial to bring closure to Marissa’s family.”

Mendoza is believed to be driving a white Toyota Camry, possibly bearing one of two license plates: CW87W00 or 9PTM351. Authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to submit an anonymous tip through the city’s website immediately.
