Obama Calls on Democrats to Take a Stand Against Trump’s Polarizing Policies
Growing Discontent with Trump’s Leadership
Former President Barack Obama is urging Democrats to rise up and take decisive action as Donald Trump’s controversial policies continue to create deep divisions within the nation.
In recent weeks, Trump’s approval rating has seen a sharp decline. A June poll revealed that less than half of Americans approve of his performance, leaving him with a negative net approval of -7.
“Now Is the Time to Act”
Speaking at a private fundraiser on July 11, Obama challenged his party to stop standing on the sidelines.
“It’s time to stop complaining, stop wallowing in disappointment, and start showing some backbone,” Obama declared, as reported by CNN. “Now is the moment for Democrats to get tough.”
Obama didn’t hold back.
“Don’t tell me you’re disappointed and doing nothing. This is the exact moment to step up and take action,” he emphasized.
He reinforced the need to protect core American values, particularly free speech.
“Defend free speech, even when it’s difficult. When someone says something you disagree with, still stand firm and defend their right to speak.”
A Dangerous Shift Toward Autocracy
This isn’t the first time Obama has sounded the alarm about the nation’s democratic stability. In June, he warned that under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. could veer dangerously close to autocracy.
“What we’re witnessing isn’t a reflection of American democracy—it’s a trend toward autocratic rule, similar to Hungary under Orbán,” Obama stated.
He pointed to concerning signs: weakened democratic norms, a lack of checks and balances, diminishing free speech, and the absence of accountability.
A Nation on the Brink
Although Obama stopped short of declaring the U.S. an autocracy, he made it clear that the country is perilously close.
His message to Democrats was clear: No more hesitation. It’s time to speak out, stand firm, and fight for what’s right.
