Donny Osmond, one of America’s most cherished singers and entertainers, has been a beloved figure for decades. Yet behind his dazzling career lies a history of health struggles that have deeply affected him. On Wednesday, the iconic performer shared a poignant video from his hospital bed, showing himself under sedation — a moment that has left fans around the world concerned and sending waves of support.
From the tender age of under six, Donny Osmond was thrust into the spotlight, captivating audiences as a professional entertainer. Over the years, the superstar — now 67 — has faced numerous health challenges, including a terrifying near-loss of one eye during the height of “Osmondmania.”
In a candid interview with Metro, Donny recalled a frightening experience in Manchester, where, surrounded by an overwhelming crowd of fans, a girl’s autograph pen accidentally struck him in the eye.
“She wrapped her arms around me so tightly, and the pen came around and hit me right in the eye. It almost took my eye out,” he revealed.
Health battles have been a recurring part of Donny’s life. In 2019, during the final Las Vegas residency concert with his sister Marie, he felt sudden numbness in his arms and legs. Despite the alarming symptoms, he bravely pushed through to finish the show, keeping his condition a secret.
“I didn’t tell anyone what was happening to me… I just kept dancing and finished the show,” Donny shared with The Mirror.
Following this, medical examinations uncovered a serious issue with his spine — worsened by injuries sustained during his victorious stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2009. After undergoing back and neck surgery, things initially seemed hopeful. But soon after, Donny was hit with a devastating secondary infection that left him unable to move.
“I thought everything was going to be fine, but it couldn’t have been worse,” he confessed. The star endured months of intense rehabilitation and even relied on a walking stick for mobility. Facing the possibility of never walking again, Donny’s recovery was a testament to his resilience and determination.
Now, he finds himself back in the hospital — this time sharing a vulnerable glimpse into his experience with fans. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Donny appeared in a hospital gown and wearing a nasal cannula, tubes attached as medical staff prepared him for surgery. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Donny’s spirit shone through.
Under mild sedation, he began to sing “Let’s Get Down to Business” — the spirited anthem from Disney’s Mulan. A staff member teasingly asked, “When are you going to start singing?” and Donny responded with his powerful voice, filling the room with hope and warmth.
“I’m starting to get dizzy,” he said as the sedation took effect, before drifting off — only to wake up singing again, resilient and strong.
In the caption, Donny wrote, “What better way to power through a procedure than singing your all-time favorite rally song?! I’m feeling all better now!”
Fans flooded the post with love and encouragement:
- “Oh, this hurt my heart. Feel better soon,” one fan commented.
- “Oh my goodness, I loved that — except for the fact you had to have surgery. Glad you’re all better now!” wrote another.
- “Sending you healing energy and so much love,” shared a third.
- “So sorry to hear. Get well soon,” offered a fourth.
Donny Osmond’s journey is a powerful reminder of strength in the face of adversity — and the healing power of music and hope. Fans everywhere continue to stand by him, wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
