Fatal Injuries Claim Life of Bull Rider at Youth Fair in Texas

Dylan Grant, a 24-year-old professional bull rider, tragically lost his life after a devastating incident during a rodeo event in Texas. According to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), Grant was competing in the second round of the Xtreme Bulls competition at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton on Thursday when he was violently thrown from a bull and subsequently trampled.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, swiftly placing Grant into an ambulance and working urgently to stabilize him. He was then airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Despite the tireless efforts of medical personnel, Grant succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed on Friday.

The rodeo community mourns the loss of a talented young rider whose passion and courage left a lasting impression.

Grant, originally from Laramie, Wyoming, had steadily built a promising career in rodeo. Since entering the sport, he competed in numerous events and earned over $15,000, according to his PRCA biography. Grant earned his PRCA permit in 2018 and officially became a full member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association when he purchased his PRCA card on February 14, 2024.

In 2021, representing the University of Wyoming rodeo team, Grant captured the bull riding championship at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo — a milestone that highlighted his rising talent. Remembering him fondly, fellow rodeo family member Kendra Santos shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, honoring his spirit and dedication to the sport.

“Our rodeo family lost a talented young cowboy last night. Wyoming bull rider Dylan Grant was tragically stepped on during the Xtreme Bulls event at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton, Texas.
