On the morning of Sunday, July 16, a devastating accident on the CE-060 highway, between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte, plunged the Cariri region into deep mourning.

The devastating loss of an entire family — Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their little boy Miguel Nascimento Gomes, only three years old — painfully reminds us of life’s fragility and the cruel unpredictability of fate.
According to reports from TV Verdes Mares and confirmed by the Ceará Military Fire Department, the family, residents of Várzea Alegre, were on their way to Juazeiro do Norte for a trip that normally takes about an hour.
What should have been a hopeful journey for little Miguel’s scheduled surgery instead ended in heartbreak. The promise of healing and recovery was tragically cut short, replaced by grief and sorrow.
Around 7 a.m., their vehicle lost control and plunged into a stream near Sítio Piripiri. The water, approximately five meters deep, made rescue efforts difficult and sealed the tragic fate of the family.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, raising urgent questions about the condition of the CE-060 highway and the safety risks faced by those who travel it every day.
