Mom of 2 moves into first home but dog starts to act strangely – then she looks closer at the walls

When it comes to house-hunting, everyone has their own wishlist. Some dream of spacious bedrooms, others crave a large backyard or a garage to fit all their toys. But no matter the preference, there’s one thing nearly all buyers agree on: a new home should never come with unwanted surprises.

Amber Hall thought she’d found her perfect place after weeks of searching—a charming four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Centennial, Colorado. She pictured her two kids and their dogs happily playing in the yard, and she loved the peaceful neighborhood.

What Amber didn’t expect was that the house already had some very unexpected residents… and they weren’t the kind you’d want to invite inside.

After officially buying the house, Amber was thrilled to finally move her family in and start making it their own. But as she began unpacking, something about her dog’s strange behavior set off alarm bells in her mind.

“I was trying to unpack when my dog suddenly crouched down and started creeping over really slowly,” Amber told KOAA.

Curious, she moved closer to see what had caught his attention, expecting maybe a spider or some harmless critter. Instead, she noticed two tiny holes in the wall—and then saw snakes slithering up the surface. Panic instantly took hold.

Yes, you read that right: snakes living inside the walls.

According to reports, the large serpents had coiled themselves beside the door leading from the garage to the yard. When Amber pressed her hand further up the wall, she felt an unusual warmth—a chilling sign that even more snakes were hidden inside.

“They were shockingly big,” she said.

After researching, experts suggested they were some form of garter snake—but with a catch: nobody had ever seen garter snakes that large before.

Amber’s fear quickly took over. “I can’t even unpack my boxes. I’m terrified there might be snakes inside or underneath them. It’s like when you crawl into bed and feel the sheet brush your foot—you immediately jump up, worried something’s lurking beneath.”

Amber discovered the first snake just over a week ago. Since then, a total of 10 snakes have been found lurking inside her home.

Overwhelmed but determined, Amber called in a professional snake wrangler who has been carefully and humanely removing the slithery intruders. The expert told her that judging by their size, some of these snakes may have been living hidden within the walls for up to two years.

“I don’t think I’m the first person to find them,” Amber admitted, “but I’m pretty sure no one ever knew they were there.”

“It’s tough. I’m 42 years old, and this is my very first home — something I’ve worked my whole life to have. Yet I can’t enjoy it. My kids should be able to, but I’m terrified.”

So far, Amber has spent around $1,000 to evict her unwanted house guests—and she’s unlikely to feel safe until the concrete is torn up to root out their hiding spots for good.

This is literally my worst nightmare! I can only imagine how anxious Amber and her children must feel living with snakes lurking around their home.
