Police Confirm Plane Crash at Southend Airport This Evening
Essex Police have confirmed a serious plane crash occurred at Southend Airport in Essex earlier today.
A spokesperson for Essex Police stated:
“We are currently at the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport. We were alerted just before 4 pm about a collision involving a single 12-metre aircraft. Emergency services are working together on-site, and operations are expected to continue for several hours.
“We kindly ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to carry out their work safely.
“As a precaution, due to their close proximity to the crash site, we are evacuating the Rochford Hundred Golf Club and Westcliff Rugby Club.
“We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.”
London Southend Airport also released a statement:
“We confirm that a serious incident involving a general aviation aircraft occurred this afternoon at Southend Airport. We are cooperating fully with local authorities and will share further details as soon as possible.”
