Tragedy in B.C.: Three Bodies Recovered After Devastating Mudslide—One Person Still Missing

Heartbreaking developments have emerged from the site of a deadly mudslide near Lillooet, B.C., where search crews have recovered the bodies of three men. A fourth person remains missing, RCMP confirmed this weekend.

The first victim was found on Wednesday, followed by two more on Thursday, according to B.C. Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe. Despite exhaustive efforts, search teams were unable to locate the final missing man, and active recovery operations have now concluded.

Earlier in the week, the body of a woman was also recovered—marking the first confirmed fatality from the catastrophic mudslides and flooding that swept through southern B.C. last weekend following relentless rainfall.

“This has been an incredibly difficult year for British Columbians,” Lapointe said in a statement. “My deepest condolences go out to the families mourning these sudden and unimaginable losses.”

The mudslide struck Highway 99 near Duffey Lake Road on November 15, leaving debris and devastation in its wake. Challenging weather and unstable terrain have hampered rescue efforts, and the area remains closed to all traffic.

Authorities are working to identify the victims and notify next of kin, while discussions continue on how to proceed at the site.
