Lawmakers Demand Federal Probe Into Tesla Protests as Tensions Escalate

A growing political firestorm is erupting over escalating protests against Tesla, with Republican lawmakers now calling for a federal investigation into what some are calling acts of domestic terrorism.

At the heart of the controversy is Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, whose remarks during a virtual meeting with the activist group Tesla Takedown have ignited fierce backlash. The group, which promotes divestment from Tesla, has been accused of fueling recent attacks on Tesla properties and vehicle owners.

Crockett’s “Birthday Wish” Sparks Uproar

During a March video call, Rep. Crockett told Tesla Takedown members, “All I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down.” While she emphasized her support for peaceful, economic protest, critics pounced on the statement.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Fox News soon after, warning, “Nothing will happen to Elon Musk. We’re going to fight to protect Tesla owners across this country.” Bondi linked the rhetoric to recent acts of vandalism and arson targeting electric vehicle infrastructure.

Protests Turn Criminal

Federal authorities recently charged three individuals with domestic terrorism in connection with coordinated attacks on Tesla dealerships and Supercharger stations. Investigators say the incidents may be politically motivated, driven by anger over Musk’s alliance with former President Trump and his controversial role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is leading a congressional push for the FBI to investigate both Crockett’s comments and the Tesla Takedown movement itself.

“This is no longer peaceful protest,” Biggs argued. “This is organized harassment. People are being attacked simply for owning a Tesla.”

In a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, lawmakers pointed to U.S. Code Title 18, Section 2331, warning that the line between activism and terrorism may have already been crossed.

Crockett Responds: “We’re Not Promoting Violence”

Despite the rising tension, Rep. Crockett stands by the movement’s mission. Speaking on a recent podcast, she said, “This is about economic resistance. We’re not targeting people—we’re targeting corporate power. We believe in peaceful protest and democratic accountability.”

No charges have been filed against Crockett, and there is no official confirmation that she is under investigation.

So far, the Biden administration and federal law enforcement agencies have remained silent on the matter, even as pressure mounts from GOP leaders demanding action.
