Obama Breaks Silence After Trump’s Explosive ‘Treason’ Accusation
Former President Barack Obama has finally responded after Donald Trump publicly accused him of treason — a rare move amid the escalating political war of words from the 79-year-old former president.
Trump’s Bold Accusation: “This Was Treason”
On July 22, speaking from the Oval Office, Trump shocked reporters by declaring, “It’s there, he’s guilty. This was treason.” He accused Obama of orchestrating a covert scheme to steal the 2016 election, alleging manipulation of intelligence to frame Russia for interference. As with his past allegations, Trump provided no concrete evidence. His remarks followed similar claims from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who labeled Obama’s actions a “treasonous conspiracy” related to Russia’s alleged election meddling.

Patrick Rodenbush, Obama’s spokesperson, swiftly dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.

Rodenbush highlighted the 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report which confirmed Russia’s attempts to influence the election—primarily to benefit Trump—through political operative Paul Manafort and WikiLeaks. However, the report clearly states no votes were changed.
“The latest document only reaffirms what’s long been accepted: Russia tried to interfere but did not alter the election results,” Rodenbush explained.

Trump’s incendiary comments come amid rising tensions inside his own base.
