If you spot these mysterious black dots in your kitchen, you had better know what they mean

Let’s be honest—discovering something odd in your home is never exactly fun, especially when there’s no clear explanation for it.

Personally, the moment I spot a new mark on the wall or catch a whiff of something unusual, my mind instantly jumps to the worst: Is this going to get worse? And how much is this going to cost me?

That’s why it’s easy to relate to the internet user who recently raised alarm after mysterious black dots started showing up in her kitchen—without warning and with no obvious cause.

Let’s face it—finding strange marks or unexplained messes is unsettling anywhere in the house, but when it happens in the kitchen? That’s when the real alarm bells start ringing.

After all, this is your food zone—the one place where cleanliness and control aren’t just preferred, they’re essential. It’s the last place you want surprises creeping in.

One homeowner, however, was left scratching her head after repeatedly spotting strange black dots appearing around her kitchen.

“Does anyone have any idea what these points might be?” she asked in the Facebook group WeLoveMrsHinch.

“They first showed up on the kitchen tiles, and then this morning I noticed them on top of the PC we keep in there.”

Fortunately, fellow group members were quick to chime in with answers—but the explanations probably weren’t what she was hoping to hear.

“Take a closer look—you’ll probably spot a spider nearby,” one commenter suggested.

Another chimed in with a more unsettling thought: “It’s that time of year. Spiders are pooing everywhere.”

As odd (and slightly gross) as it sounds, they weren’t wrong.

According to the Pest Guidance website, spiders don’t leave solid droppings like many insects. Instead, their waste is thick and liquid—more like dark ink stains—and can show up on walls, tiles, or any surface they crawl across.

“Their faeces look like splats or drips in shades of black, brown, white, or grey,” the site explains. “The exact appearance depends on the species, but you can typically expect dark splashes or dribbles. These droppings are a mix of digested food and other waste materials released from the spider’s body.”

Honestly, I had no idea spider droppings were even a thing. Did you? Let us know in the comments!
