Michelle Obama issues direct response to Barack divorce rumors

Michelle Obama has once again stepped forward to shut down persistent rumors that she and Barack Obama are headed for divorce.

In recent months, speculation—though largely baseless—has swirled suggesting cracks in the Obamas’ marriage. Despite the lack of any real evidence, the gossip refused to fade, leaving fans and media alike craving a clear answer.

Thankfully, Michelle wasn’t about to stay silent. Earlier, during her appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast, she firmly stated, “Everyone would know” if she and Barack were separating. But even that candid reassurance didn’t fully put the rumors to rest.

Now, on NPR’s Wild Card podcast, Michelle delivered another no-nonsense response, dousing the flames of speculation once more.

Reflecting on life after leaving the White House in 2017, Michelle shared how adjusting from global spotlight to a quieter life has been a shift for both her and Barack. While many dream of Michelle making a future presidential run, the couple seem happy carving out their own path, away from the political stage.

She explained, “It takes a second when you start thinking, ‘Can you go here? Can you say this? Can you touch this third rail?’ Even now, when Barack and I say something, it gets covered. The fact that people don’t see me going out on a date with my husband sparks rumors of the end of our marriage—it’s sort of… the apocalypse!”

Michelle also addressed their low social media profile, telling host Rachel Martin, “You just are not going to know what we’re doing every minute of the day. Yes, we’re famous, but we’re 60—we don’t take selfies!”

She laughed, adding, “Barack was joking, saying, ‘You don’t even take pictures of anything we do.’ I was like, ‘I’m not thinking about a picture.’”

With that, Michelle made it clear: their marriage is strong, their life private, and the rumors? Simply not true.

“So, I think breaking the habit is just as much of an adjustment,” Michelle reflected.

Michelle and Barack, who first crossed paths in 1988 while working at a Chicago law firm, share two daughters, Malia and Natasha. When Barack made history as the first Black President of the United States in 2009, he openly acknowledged the immense toll the presidency took on their marriage.
