6 dead after truck crashes into van carrying

A tragic crash in rural Michigan has left six people dead after a pickup truck blew through a stop sign and struck a van carrying members of a local Amish community, authorities said.

The collision happened Tuesday afternoon in Gilford Township, Tuscola County, about 100 miles north of Detroit. Thirteen people were involved—10 in the van and three in the pickup, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Multiple passengers were ejected from the van and the pickup,” the department wrote on Facebook. “At this time there are six confirmed fatalities and the condition of the additional patients is unknown.”

Undersheriff Robert Baxter confirmed Wednesday that the van was transporting Amish community members with a hired driver. “I’m not sure where they were headed or where they were coming from. They’re county residents,” he said.
