Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was caught on camera rolling her eyes at Donald Trump during a high-profile meeting with European leaders at the White House.
The gathering brought leaders from Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom to the U.S. to discuss the future of the Russia-Ukraine war and potential ceasefire deals. Trump, who had previously met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate peace—a plan he later admitted failed—hosted the meeting.
Meloni was first seen rolling her eyes at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz as he stressed the importance of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. She rolled her eyes again while Trump spoke, apparently in response to his remarks about Italian governments’ history of short tenures.
Trump, joking about Italy’s political turnover, said, “You’ve lasted a long time, you’re gonna be there a long time.” Meloni appeared to nod politely before casting a subtle eye-roll when Trump looked away.
The clip, which quickly went viral on social media, also features NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and French President Emmanuel Macron discussing Ukraine.
Reactions online were mixed: some found her eye-roll hilarious, others suggested it was a natural tic or even a playful gesture. One viewer commented, “He is so dense that she can actually roll her eyes next to him.” Another joked it could be flirting, calling it “a hair flip with a look to the heavens.”
