Investigative journalist John Solomon has dropped a political bombshell: former President Barack Obama could now be compelled to testify before a grand jury in connection with the long-running “Russiagate” controversy.
According to Solomon, Obama cannot invoke the Fifth Amendment thanks to the shield of presidential immunity. But that legal protection only goes so far. If summoned, the former president would be required to testify under oath — and any misstatement or lie could strip away his immunity instantly, exposing him to potential prosecution as a private citizen.
The irony, Solomon notes, is hard to miss. On January 5, 2017, Obama presided over a White House meeting where top officials reportedly devised a plan to entrap incoming National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. Despite the FBI having just cleared Flynn of wrongdoing, senior officials pushed forward with a scheme: draw Flynn into an interview, catch him in a misstep, and charge him for lying. Former FBI Director James Comey has even admitted to playing a role in setting that trap.
Now, Solomon warns, Obama could be walking into a similar snare himself.
“Obama can be summoned before a grand jury. He cannot take the Fifth Amendment. He’ll have to tell the truth,” Solomon explained on Real America’s Voice. “If he lies as a private citizen about what he did as president, he loses that immunity. That’s the trap he’s potentially facing.”
For Solomon, the situation comes full circle: “On January 5, 2017, Obama sat in a meeting where they schemed how to jam up Mike Flynn. Today, Obama himself could face the very same kind of peril.”
