Assault on a Border Patrol Agent in Katy, Texas
A violent encounter at a Katy, Texas checkpoint has led to a federal prison sentence. On August 1, 2023, 26‑year‑old Kevin Dominguez approached a Border Patrol checkpoint along U.S. Highway 57. A trained Border Patrol canine detected unusual movement in the trunk of his sedan, revealing a concealed individual.
Instead of stopping as required, Dominguez reversed his vehicle, striking a Border Patrol agent before fleeing. A high-speed pursuit ensued, with a USBP helicopter capturing footage of two individuals exiting the vehicle into a nearby field. Investigators quickly identified one as an undocumented noncitizen from Honduras.
Dominguez was indicted on September 13, 2023, and arrested the following day. He pleaded guilty on January 24, 2024, and was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. The case underscores both the dangerous tactics some use to evade law enforcement and the swift response of federal authorities to protect the border.
