ICE Arrests Illinois Man Accused in Grisly Murder of Missing Woman

Chicago, IL – Federal immigration agents have re-arrested a 52-year-old Mexican national accused of one of Illinois’ most shocking crimes this year — the brutal murder and dismemberment of a missing woman whose remains were found stuffed in a bleach-filled container.

Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, of Waukegan, was first taken into custody in April on charges including concealing a corpse, abuse of a corpse, and obstruction of justice. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the body of 37-year-old Megan Bos — reported missing in March but last seen in February — was discovered on his property, gruesomely decapitated and hidden for nearly two months.

Despite the disturbing allegations, Lake County Judge Randie Bruno ordered Mendoza-Gonzalez released after his initial court appearance, a decision that drew outrage from local leaders. On Saturday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents tracked him down at a Chicago market, placing him back behind bars where he now awaits further legal proceedings.

Antioch Mayor Scott Gartner blasted the release, pointing to Illinois’ controversial SAFE-T Act, which reformed pretrial detention. “The nature of this crime, how long it was hidden, and the suspect’s immigration status raise serious public safety concerns,” Gartner said.

State Representative Tom Weber echoed those sentiments, calling the case a grim example of the dangers posed by recent bail reforms and the handling of violent offenders.

Federal authorities say they’re committed to working with local law enforcement to see the case through, promising that justice for Bos and her grieving family remains their top priority.
