Donald Trump wasted no time showing his support for actress Sydney Sweeney after learning she might lean Republican. Upon hearing the news, he responded with a full endorsement, saying, “I’m glad you told me that,” before offering high praise for her American Eagle ad, calling it “fantastic.”
While Trump’s claim about Sweeney’s political affiliation remains unverified—there’s a voter record in Florida that could match her name, but it hasn’t been confirmed, and Sweeney hasn’t made any statements on the matter—Trump embraced the information as fact, running with it confidently.

After praising Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad, Donald Trump took his endorsement to the next level on Truth Social. “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying off the shelves.’ Go get ’em Sydney!” he posted, declaring her ad a massive hit.
But Trump didn’t stop there. He launched into a rant about other brands, specifically calling out Jaguar for a “stupid, and seriously WOKE advertisement.” He went on to say, “Who wants to buy a Jaguar after looking at that disgraceful ad? Shouldn’t they have learned a lesson from Bud Light… Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift… She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
Trump capped off his message with a sweeping declaration: “The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”
The post sparked a mix of reactions. Some on Truth Social rallied behind Trump, calling boldness and Republicanism the “new cool.” On X, however, many were less impressed, with some branding the comments sexist and embarrassing. One user remarked, “Speaking down so confidently on beautiful women as if he isn’t the ugliest man in America is bold of him.”
Another post condemned his rhetoric, stating, “I genuinely don’t understand how people are okay with any president speaking like this about women, about citizens of their own country. It’s beyond politics at this point. It’s embarrassing.” Some speculated that Trump’s remarks were a result of lingering frustration over Taylor Swift’s refusal to endorse him, with one user commenting, “The man is still furious Taylor Swift didn’t endorse him. It’s giving high school crush rejection energy.”
Meanwhile, Sweeney’s ad, which promotes American Eagle jeans, has attracted its own controversy. The commercial features Sweeney stating, “Genes are passed down from parent to offspring… My genes are blue,” before switching the focus to “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” with “genes” crossed out. Critics have accused the ad of being racially insensitive, with some arguing it glorifies whiteness, pointing to her blue eyes and blonde hair.
Republican figures have rushed to Sydney Sweeney’s defense in the wake of the ad’s controversy. JD Vance weighed in on a podcast, saying, “You have, like, a normal all-American beautiful girl doing a normal jeans ad… and they’ve managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing. My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi.”
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also chimed in, blasting the backlash as “warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking,” claiming that it’s exactly why “Americans voted the way they did in 2024.”
American Eagle has stood by the ad, clarifying on Instagram that its message “was always about the jeans.” However, with Trump now promoting it as if it were campaign material, the ad has become part of a much larger cultural battle.
