A new poll shows how Americans really feel about Trump as his approval rating hits a new low

New Poll Reveals Trump’s Approval Rating Plummets Amid Growing Economic Worries

Americans Point Fingers at Trump as Financial Struggles Mount

A fresh poll uncovers a sharp decline in Donald Trump’s approval rating, hitting the lowest mark of his second term as economic frustrations surge across the nation.

Conducted by Morning Consult for the Century Foundation, the survey of 2,007 Americans shines a spotlight on how deeply many feel the pinch of rising costs — and who they blame. The verdict? A majority hold Trump responsible.

Rising Costs Spark Nationwide Backlash

From skyrocketing grocery bills to housing costs and childcare struggles, Americans say they’re stretched thin:

  • 63% believe Trump’s policies have driven grocery prices higher.
  • 61% say he’s made the overall cost of living worse.
  • 49% feel his leadership has directly harmed their personal finances.

With six in ten respondents struggling to secure well-paying jobs or affordable housing, the stress is real. An overwhelming 83% worry about grocery prices, while 47% fret over rent or mortgage payments. Unexpected medical bills add fuel to the fire, weighing heavily on 64% of those surveyed, and a looming recession rattles 76% of Americans.

Tariffs Spark Bipartisan Concern

Trump’s tariff policies also rank high on the list of worries, with nearly 80% of Americans fearing they’ll further inflate the cost of everyday goods. Even 70% of Republican voters express concern, signaling widespread unease that tariffs could deepen financial woes rather than ease them.

Approval Ratings Sink to Record Lows

According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,023 adults, Trump’s approval rating now stands at 40% — the lowest since his second term began.

  • 83% of Republicans continue to back him.
  • Only 3% of Democrats agree.
  • A third of independents express approval.

When it comes to specific policies:

  • 38% support Trump’s economic management (up slightly from 35% last month).
  • 43% approve of his immigration stance (a modest increase from 41%).

Support Among Men Is Waning

Even among men, a key Trump demographic, support is slipping. A CBS/YouGov poll finds only 47% approve of his performance, with 53% disapproving.

Men also express clear dissatisfaction on key fronts:

  • 65% say Trump hasn’t done enough to reduce grocery prices.
  • 47% believe he overemphasizes immigration enforcement.
  • Just 33% feel his immigration policies strike the right balance.

Gallup’s latest figures echo this downward trend, showing Trump’s approval at a historic low of 37%.

Critics Blast Trump’s Economic Strategy

Julie Margetta Morgan, president of the Century Foundation, sharply criticized Trump’s record:

“Donald Trump has raised prices through reckless tariffs, gutted support programs for health care, education, and food, and weakened federal regulators. Americans are now forced to rely on credit cards, payday loans, and student debt — while corporate oversight dwindles.”

Looking Ahead: Mounting Pressure on Trump

As inflation tightens its grip and household budgets grow more fragile, Americans’ frustration is clear — and much of it is aimed squarely at Trump’s economic policies.

With approval ratings falling and support slipping even within core groups, the president faces escalating challenges as the country braces for an uncertain financial future.
