Professional Bull Rider Dylan Grant Dies After Tragic Rodeo Accident at Texas Youth Fair

Dylan Grant, a 24-year-old professional bull rider, has tragically lost his life following a harrowing accident during a rodeo event in Texas. The incident occurred during the second round of the Xtreme Bulls competition at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton on Thursday, according to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).

Grant was thrown from a bull and subsequently trampled, prompting an immediate emergency response. First responders rushed to his aid, stabilizing him on-site before airlifting him to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. Despite their relentless efforts, Grant sadly succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed Friday.

The rodeo community mourns the loss of a courageous athlete taken far too soon.

Grant, originally from Laramie, Wyoming, had steadily built a promising rodeo career. Since stepping into the sport, he competed in multiple events and earned over $15,000, according to his PRCA biography. He earned his PRCA permit in 2018 and officially became a full member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association by purchasing his PRCA card on February 14, 2024 — marking a significant milestone in his rodeo journey.

In 2021, riding for the University of Wyoming rodeo team, Grant captured the bull riding championship at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo, showcasing his rising talent. Following his tragic passing, rodeo family member Kendra Santos shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, honoring his passion and spirit.

“Our rodeo family has lost a talented young cowboy,” Kendra Santos wrote on Facebook. “Wyoming bull rider Dylan Grant was trampled during the Xtreme Bulls event at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton, Texas. Medics worked tirelessly on Dylan, a 2023 University of Wyoming graduate, in the ambulance at the scene. At just 24 years old, he was then life-flighted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he was pronounced dead.

There are no words that can truly express our sympathy in this time of overwhelming shock and grief.

Love and prayers go out to Dylan’s heartbroken family and friends—from every single one of us.”
