Beandri Booysen’s life was a shining example of strength, love, and unyielding positivity. Though faced with the rare and devastating challenge of progeria, she radiated a joy that touched the hearts of thousands. Tragically, her courageous journey came to an end just days before Christmas.
At only 19 years old, Beandri’s passing leaves a profound impact—but her inspiring story will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born in South Africa, Beandri was diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome at just seven months old—a rare genetic disorder that causes the body to age at an accelerated rate, roughly eight times faster than normal.

Progeria is an extraordinarily rare condition—affecting just 1 in every 4 million births—with fewer than 400 children and young adults living with it worldwide today. Doctors had grim predictions for Beandri, expecting she wouldn’t live past her early teens. But Beandri had her own plans.
A Life Lived to the Fullest
From the moment she found her voice, Beandri refused to be defined by her diagnosis. Though she weighed only 12 kilograms (26 pounds) and bore the physical hardships of the disease, her spirit soared far beyond any limitation.
She went to school, nurtured dreams of becoming a teacher, and imagined a future filled with love—marrying and raising twins. Beandri was determined to live every day like any other teenager, embracing life with fierce joy and hope.

On social media, Beandri found a powerful platform to share her story. Her TikTok account, filled with motivational messages and honest glimpses into her daily life, quickly captivated nearly 300,000 followers.
Her heartfelt motto—“Be yourself. Love yourself. Believe in yourself.”—struck a chord worldwide. Through her videos, Beandri not only opened hearts but also raised vital awareness about progeria, inspiring compassion and understanding across the globe.
A Mother’s Heartbreak
Just weeks after celebrating her 19th birthday, tragedy struck.
“Please pray. Beandri’s heart stopped,” her mother, Bea, shared in a heartbreaking post. “They are trying to get her heart to beat again. Please pray.”
On December 18, Bea announced the painful news that her beloved daughter had passed away.
In a message filled with both sorrow and immense pride, Bea remembered Beandri as a “vibrant personality” and the “last surviving person in South Africa with progeria.”
“She was a powerful voice and a beacon of awareness for progeria and other special needs,” Bea wrote. “She never stopped fighting.”
Tributes poured in across TikTok as news of Beandri’s passing spread.
“Rest in peace, my sweetheart friend. I will miss you so much,” one follower shared.
Countless others expressed their sorrow, sending heartfelt condolences to Beandri’s family and all who loved her.
Her Lasting Legacy
Though her time on this earth was far too brief, Beandri used every moment to teach us what truly matters. She showed us how to live fully, love fiercely, and find beauty in each day. Her infectious laughter, fearless optimism, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others will never be forgotten.
While her family has requested privacy during this difficult time, one thing remains clear: Beandri’s light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of everyone she touched.
As we hold her story close, may it remind us all to cherish the moments we have—and to live with the same courage and joy that Beandri embraced every single day.
