Texas dad’s heartbreaking voicemail to his kids as deadly floods swept him and wife away

During the catastrophic flooding that swept through central Texas, 61-year-old Jeff Ramsey embodied a father’s profound love and courage in his final moments. As the relentless waters of the Guadalupe River engulfed the HTR RV Park in Kerrville, Jeff and his wife Tanya, 46, were trapped inside their Airstream trailer—helpless against the rising tide.

Realizing escape was nearly impossible, Jeff recorded heartfelt voicemails to his children, Jake and Rachel—his voice trembling with a mix of love, desperation, and fear they had never heard before. In one chilling message to Rachel, Tanya’s anguished screams can be heard in the background, underscoring the terrifying ordeal they faced.

The floodwaters destroyed their trailer before any emergency alerts could reach them, making Jeff’s desperate calls the only warnings his loved ones received. Tragically, Tanya’s body was later recovered and identified, while Jeff remains missing, lost to the flood.

Yet Jeff’s courage extended beyond his own family. With presence of mind, he called Tanya’s brother and mother, waking them just in time before the floodwaters devastated their cabin—a call that Jake believes saved their lives.

Tanya, a breast cancer survivor who ran a wig shop supporting women battling cancer, and Jeff, a dedicated volunteer helping amputees regain strength, were pillars of their community, devoted to service and compassion.

Amid heartbreak, the family found a small blessing: Chloe, their rescue whippet, was found alive in a local shelter, reunited with loved ones.

Friends and family remember Jeff as a man with a “servant’s heart,” whose final moments were marked by love, bravery, and selflessness. While Jake carries anger over the failure of the emergency alert system and vows to fight for reform, his deepest hope is that his father’s legacy is one of love and courage—etched forever in their hearts.
